Back in SF this week

  San Francisco (pc062232)

It feels like I'm in San Francisco more and more these days.

I was just there 2 weeks ago and I'm flying out this evening for a few days.

And I'm making the trip again in another 2 weeks. Then Web 2.0.....

Maybe I don't need dopplr. I just need something that says SF [yes] [no]

;)

California by Phantom Planet

Grrr

Santo and I are sitting in the Denver airport now. Our flight back home is delayed for 3 hours which means we won't get back until 3am EST. The plane is here but we don't have a crew yet.

I guess I'm pretty annoyed because this is a photo Santo took of me when I wasn't looking.

Not pretty.

Back from Maine

Ellie on top of Cadillac Summitt - Acadia
  Originally uploaded by bsabet.

We had a fantastic vacation up in Maine for the past 4 days. Spent a lot of time hiking, biking, eating and swimming.

I'm glad we made the trip. This is Ellie at Cadillac Summit. Here's a link to all of the photos from the trip.

Acadia is pretty sweet.

Acadia National Park

We are going to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor in Maine. Tomorrow through Sunday.

I'm really looking forward to it. It's supposed to be a beautiful place.

Blogging will be light. But I'll probably be twittering so check out my twitter badge on the right sidebar or here is my profile page on twitter. And I'm sure I'll upload a photo or two to flickr during the trip.

Weekend in NH

Every summer we go away with our friends, the Jorgensen family, for an extended weekend. Luke and Reiko are our friends from undergrad. Their 3 kids are adorable and about the same ages as our three kiddies. It's pretty cool to see our kids friendships develop with each other.

This weekend we went up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire (ok, green can be as beautiful as brown). The White Mountains are just a few hours north of Boston. Beautiful country.

Friday we explored and had lunch at Otter Rock along the Kangamangus. Saturday we went to Story Land. And today we went hiking at the Lost River Gorge. That was my favorite. Lots of great caves and cool waterfalls. This cave was the hardest and most fun.

Awesome fathers day weekend. Great getaway, great friends, great memories.

71Miles.com

A few months ago Biz Stone introduced me to Adam Rugel. Adam is the founder of 71Miles which is a network of travel sites focused on regional travel.

They started off focusing on Northern California. The content and user experience is fantastic. I've been recommending the site to friends and have been meaning to blog about it for awhile.

Big Sur is one of our very favorite getaways. It's a special place. Surprisingly I know a lot of bay area folks that have never been. Here is a taste of what 71Miles has to offer on Big Sur. Very nice local content and even a slide show with audio.

I hope Adam covers New England next :)

Need Acadia advice

We used to go to Yosemite at least once a year when we lived in SF. Sometimes we went a few times a year especially if our east coast friends were visiting. We made it to the top of Half Dome once which was a special experience.

Since moving back to New England we have been meaning to visit Acadia National Park. We are going this summer in July and are now putting our plans together. Anyone have any tips/suggestions on places to stay? Actually any recommendations would be great. Thanks.

  Luau at the Polynesian Resort
  Originally uploaded by bsabet.

The sun was out today and we went swimming this afternoon. Swimming in February outside is good for the soul.

This evening we went to the Polynesian Resort for the Disney Luau. It was a bit cheesy but there was one guy who did some amazing tricks twirling torches.

Overall it was extremely highly entertaining for the kids. Afterwards they danced all the way home.

A day at the Magic Kingdom

We spent the entire day at the Magic Kingdom today. From the time the park opened to the closing fireworks show. Fun and busy day. Meals with the characters, fun rides, parades and other activities.

Sophia's favorite was Splash Mountain (she did it 3 times). Ellie's favorite was Thunder Mountain. Lauren was a fan of Space Mountain. James loved the Dumbo ride. My favorite today was the ice cream after dinner.

I love this photo because somewhere (I think at my parents house) there is a photo of me and my brother taken 30+ years ago at DisneyWorld in a similar pose. I gotta find it.

Lots more photos from the day on my flickr photostream.

Disney World vacation - Day 1

  Morning at SeaWorld
  Originally uploaded by bsabet.

We are having a ball at Disney. Last night we were all in the mood for sushi. We had dinner at Kimonos. The food was excellent and the service was really good.

Today we had a character breakfast and then spent the day at SeaWorld. The weather is a bit cool (62 degrees) so the park was pretty empty which was very nice. Sophia and Ellie did the roller coaster about 6 times in a row.  James didn't go on any rides today but he loved all the people watching and had fun watching the various shows we went to.

Kids are having a blast and so are we.

Not so perfect red eye

I took the red eye back from SF last night and arrived in Boston this morning. I did get an upgrade to first class but I didn't have the perfect red eye that my friend Howard experienced recently.  Went to the office and made it thru with a lot of diet dr pepper. I feel yucky.

Maybe I should try the ambien next time. Or maybe I should just avoid these red eyes. I think that's a bettter idea for me :)

Nice to be home. Although its 7 degrees outside.

  South Park
  Originally uploaded by Allan Ferguson.

I'm in SF today & tomorrow. It's gorgeous here today.

I have about 20 minutes before my mtg starts and I'm so bummed that I left my camera on the kitchen counter this morning. But this photo of south park I grabbed from flickr will give you an idea.

Walk around the old neighborhood

I had a sentimental walk around SF today. Here is a map of the path I took. Sf_walkBrought back lots of memories. Yes, i wimped out and took a cab from union street back to the hotel ...but 6 miles wasn't too bad :-)

More pictures on our photo gallery as well.

10 years later

Webtvlogo2I'm in San Francisco this weekend. Steve and Bruce were kind to organize and host a WebTV 10 year reunion bash. The party was last night and it was so much fun to see everyone and be back in the city by the bay. Great turn out and nice remember that over 3 million people purchased webtv and still being supported by Microsoft. It was a great ride.

City by the Bay

I'm in SF today. It's rainy and gray but I saw my good friend Patrick B. last night for dinner and I can see the Bay Bridge from my hotel window. Feels great to be back if only for a day.

City by the bay.

I'm back in the bay area for a conference. God, I miss this place....
